Scouts Jamboree on the Air 2011
Saturday the 15th of October was a unique opportunity to show Scouts all over the world how amateur radio and their movement can combine and be a formidable tool in emergency communication!
After the tsunami of 2004, the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and other disasters around the world, Scouts have shown that they know how to react and make themselves available to assist after disasters.
What better way is there to give the Scouts a ‘hands on’ experience of exactly what role the amateurs, especially the well trained emergency communicators, can teach them on the 54th JOTA day!
Participation from a Global Emergency Communications Network (GEM) point of view was accomplished this way; we provided our Incident Database as a posting, storing and retrieval facility for Scout groups who participated. We transmitted many messages via Echolink and HF Radio. We streamed Scout communications via our web stream.
Thank you to all members who participated! An internal GEM report is available for Members only. To obtain a copy, please contact [email protected]
GEM has produced an Exercise report for public consumption. You are welcome to download this, but please note that all GEM documents and web content are subject to our copyright (see left). DOWNLOAD
